5 shot in Franklin Park following Dominican Festival

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking for the public’s support.

Boston police are asking for the public’s help in an ongoing investigation following a shooting wounding five people in Franklin Park on Sunday night.

Officers working the Dominican Festival heard gunshots at 8:43 p.m. near Circuit Drive as the event was coming to a close. Three males and two females suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities say.

The Dominican Festival was planned to take place from noon to 10 p.m., and a parade was to start on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain and end in Franklin Park, according to an event posting.

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox asked that anyone with video footage or any other information contact the Boston Police Department.

“There were many, many people that were witnesses,” Cox said in a media briefing. “We need the public’s support on this.”

Emergency responders transported victims to a local hospital, and police found one additional victim who was also taken to receive medical attention, he said.

The department is sparing “no expense” on the investigation, Cox said.

“We need to hold these people responsible,” he said. “Whether it’s an individual or individuals responsible for this heinous act.”
