South Shore church falls victim to burglary for second time in two weeks

CHICAGO — A suspect who is believed to have broken into a South Side church on Thursday has been taken into custody, according to Chicago police.

This week’s break-in is the second that has unfolded in recent weeks at Windsor Park Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Shore.

During a burglary two weeks ago, someone disabled the security cameras before stealing thousands of dollars worth of computer and audio equipment as well as several boxes of food from the pantry.

On Thursday morning church leaders received a call from the alarm company informing them that the cameras had detected movement in the building.

Police arrested a man who was discovered in the church and members said the suspect was someone who had been coming to the church for help for the last two years.

The congregation, which is well-known for helping others, is now asking for help to replace what it lost.
