CHICAGO — Authorities are asking for help in the search for a man involved in an armed robbery that left a victim injured on the city’s West Side earlier this month.

According to police, the violent robbery unfolded just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the 5700 Block of West Augusta Boulevard in Austin.

Officers said the incident stemmed from an argument over the victim’s bicycle.

Police said during the argument, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the victim several times.

Following the shooting, the man proceeded to steal the victim’s bicycle.

On Thursday, police shared video captured by surveillance cameras in the area of the man believed to be responsible for the armed robbery.

Police said the perpetrator had a medium build and stood between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall and had black hair with dreadlocks.

Police advise the public to remain aware of their surroundings and stay free from distractions. According to officers, anyone who is confronted by an assailant should try to remain calm.

Authorities warn the public never to pursue a fleeing assailant and instead work to remember any unique physical characteristics of the offenders.

Police say those who fall victim or witness a crime should call 911 immediately and provide authorities with a detailed description of the offenders.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact CPD Area Four Detectives at 312-746-8253 or dial 911.

Those with information that could help detectives in their investigation can also leave a tip at CPDtip.com. Tips can be filed anonymously.
