CHP officer hit by car on freeway in Los Angeles

An officer with the California Highway Patrol is in an unknown condition after being hit by a vehicle on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles early Sunday morning.

The collision was reported at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of the 5’s interchange with Interstate 14 in the L.A. neighborhood Sylmar.

No details were immediately available, but video footage captured by stringer service OC Hawk showed a black Tesla with a cracked windshield and another black vehicle with apparent damage to its side.

Multiple people were seen being handcuffed at the scene, according to the OC Hawk footage. It was not immediately clear whether they were arrested.

The officer that was struck was transported to a local hospital, although the injuries suffered were not immediately known.

As of 6 a.m., southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway were closed in the area of the 14 connector. It’s not known how long those lanes will be closed for.
