An officer opened fire during a traffic stop at a vehicle wanted in connection to a homicide in the New City neighborhood  Friday evening, Chicago police said.

Chicago police attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in connection to a homicide in the 1700 block of West 47th Street at about 5:35 p.m.  Friday. An officer fired his gun and struck the vehicle, though no one was struck by gunfire, police say.

The suspect fled but was taken into custody, and the officer was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, according to police.

The details — including an investigation into the use of force — are currently being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, police say, and any officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
