Ed Kelce doesn’t want the recent comments he made about Kanye West’s mental health to be misconstrued as criticism.
The father of Super Bowl champion siblings Jason and Travis Kelce took to social media to clarify remarks he made in response to the Grammy winner’s new song “Lifestyle,” which mentions Taylor Swift and beau Travis.
“I feel the need to clarify that my comment on Kanye West was not so much a criticism as it was my thoughts on his mental health,” the older Kelce wrote in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon. “His behaviors and comments beyond Taylor indicate a paranoia and over-inflated sense of self worth.”
“This is a talented guy and hopefully he’s getting help with these issues,” Kelce concluded.
West, now legally known as Ye, has previously claimed he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Kelce originally entered the chat on Aug. 8 when, in response to an article about West’s new song, he wrote on social media: “Mental illness on full display.”
On “Lifestyle,” off the rapper’s recently released “Vultures 2,” Lil Wayne raps: “I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce.”
Swift and Ye have been embroiled in an on-again/off-again feud for more than a decade, ever since he interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.
Years later, the Yeezy designer took a swipe at Swift in his 2016 song “Famous,” in which he rapped that he “made that b—h famous” and about the possibility of having sex with her.
After Swift publicly condemned the rapper calling her “that b—h,” his then-wife Kim Kardashian came to his defense, releasing clips of a phone call without Swift’s consent that seemingly showed the “Reputation” singer giving Ye her consent to use the line.
It wasn’t until the full phone call was released in 2020 that it became clear Ye never told Swift about the “b—h” line in question.
