Taylor Swift fans who apparently support Donald Trump launched an unlikely “Swifties for Trump” campaign on the social media platform X on Friday night.
“The Kamala campaign is starting to panic now that Swifties for Trump is starting to gain some momentum,” one X user with 294,000 followers posted as that word combination trended.
“Yes, you can be a swiftie and a Trump supporter,” wrote an X user who goes by @trumpswiftie. “And don’t judge me.”
Swift was busily wrapping up the most profitable music tour in history in Europe when the trend started making the rounds. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer performed at London’s Wembley Stadium Friday night and will do that again Saturday. While she hasn’t commented publicly on November’s presidential election, Swift endorsed the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.
She criticized Trump’s “ineffective leadership” on social media in the weeks leading up to Trump’s defeat in the last presidential election.
“He is WELL AWARE that we do not want him as our president,” Swift stated.
Trump recently conceded that as much as he finds the “unusually beautiful” 34-year-old popstar attractive, the feeling probably isn’t mutual.
“[Swift] probably doesn’t like Trump,” he told “Apprentice in Wonderland” author Ramin Setoodeh during a taped interview.
Swift supporters, who proudly refer to themselves as “Swifties,” constitute one of pop culture’s most engaged fan bases. Her endorsing Harris to become the first female president in U.S. history wouldn’t come as a shock to a lot of people.
Swift’s representatives couldn’t be reached for comment late Friday night.
