After playing just six snaps in New England’s preseason opener against the Panthers last week, Drake Maye could be in line for a more featured role on the gridiron Thursday as the Patriots host the Eagles in their second preseason contest.

Kick-off from Foxborough is set for 7 p.m.

New England is planning on giving Maye an extended look under center against Philadelphia, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

“The plan, I’m told, is to have Jacoby Brissett play the first quarter, Maye play the second quarter and into the third, Joe Milton to go in in the third and play into the fourth, and Bailey Zappe to finish,” Breer posted on X.

While Patriots fans should be excited to see Maye conduct at least a couple of drives, New England’s woeful showing in pass protection during Tuesday’s joint practice with the Eagles stands as a major concern moving forward.

Ben Volin of The Boston Globe has a look at five things to watch for on Thursday night, including New England’s void at offensive tackle and a potential rebound for the first-team offense.

Follow along here for live updates from Thursday’s game, and check back once the game wraps for some early observations.

LIVE UPDATES

7:53: Keion White with a 12-yard sack. Nice showing from another pass-rusher set for more reps with Judon gone.

7:52: Jermiah Pharms (who was great last week vs. Carolina) and Joshua Bledsoe just smoked Pickett — who just manages to get the ball out.

7:48: Joey Slye connects on a 51-yard field goal. 3-3 game.

7:44: Maye scrambles for 6 yards, and then hits Javon Baker for 12 yards for a first down. Progress!

7:43: False start on Vederian Lowe.

7:43: Drake Maye into the game to start the second.

7:39: End First: Eagles lead, 3-0.

7:39: A 1-yard sack for New England’s new top pass rusher in Josh Uche.

7:37: Drake Maye is warming up.

7:30: Brissett back out for another series — and it doesn’t go well. Another 3-and-out, with Brissett missing some throws once again.

7:26: Jake Elliott connects on a 42-yard field goal. 3-0 Eagles.

7:20: Brissett is picked off by Avonte Maddox in the end zone. Brissett was trying to hit Hooper, but man — he forced that throw.

7:17: Nice 9-yard pickup from Austin Hooper.

7:10: Great punt from Baringer, who pins Philly at their own 1-yard line.

7:09: 3 and out for New England’s offense. Brissett had a chance to extend the drive, but his throw to Hooper falls short.

7:05: Patriots win the coin toss and will take the ball to start.

7:04: Pretty quiet night here in Foxborough.

6:52: Here’s a look at some of the players not expected to play for New England tonight:

6:47: Sure looks like New England’s O-line hasn’t changed:

LT: Vederian Lowe
LG: Sidy Sow
C: David Andrews
RG: Mike Onwenu
RT: Chukwuma Okorafor

6:45: Sure looks like we’re going to see a bunch of Drake Maye tonight.

6:20: Warmups are underway just as the weather begins to clear a bit.

5:46: A nice tribute here from Ja’Lynn Polk.

5:45: Doesn’t seem like the Eagles are rolling with Jalen Hurts or most of their offense tonight. However, Jeff McLane is reporting that a few starters on defense will get a run tonight. That could cause issues for New England’s lackluster O-line.

5:30: Greetings from a very soggy Gillette Stadium. Does seem like the weather is set to clear up a bit just before kick-off.
