GURNEE, Ill. – A woman was killed in a crash in Gurnee late Tuesday morning.

The Gurnee Police Department said the crash happened just before noon at the intersection of Route 41 and Delany Road and involved a semi-truck and a Honda sedan.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Honda was traveling southbound on Route 41 and was positioned in the left turn lane for northbound Delany Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda then left the turn lane and entered the southbound lanes of Route 41 when it was hit by a southbound semi-truck.

The impact caused the Honda to be pushed through the intersection and into a pole, according to investigators.

Police said the driver of the Honda, identified as a 63-year-old Grayslake woman, was trapped inside the vehicle and personnel with the Gurnee Fire Department had to help get her out. She was then taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she died.

The crash remains under investigation.
