White House courts content creators

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden spoke to a group of 100 content creators Wednesday.

The Biden administration invited the group to Washington for the first of its kind “Creator Economy Conference.” The White House says the meeting focused on unique economic challenges and opportunities facing content creators.

During his remarks, President Biden stressed the important role creators, who for many are considered trusted sources, play in our democracy.

“I think you’re going to change the entire dynamic in how we communicate,” said Biden adding jokingly, “and that’s why I invited you to the White House, I’m looking for a job.”

President Biden spoke to the group for about 15 minutes.

The event is not the first time the Biden administration courted influencers on the White House grounds.

Imani Cheers, a digital story telling professor at George Washington University, says the White House is smart to engage.

“The reality is the numbers don’t lie. If you want to engage, in particular younger voters… you have to go to the places and spaces they are and that’s in virtual,” says Cheers.

The Trump campaign and Harris campaign are boosting their social media engagements ahead of the election.

Influencers have also been welcomed at campaign rallies and both the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention.

Cheers expect influencers in politics to be the new norm.

“That is what individuals want, they want authenticity, they want to see their political leader in spaces where they’re already getting their information,” says Cheers.

While touting his record on health care, President Biden told creators at the conference he hopes they will be at Thursday’s campaign event.

It will mark the first joint event for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris since President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed his VP.
