Pumpkin spiked? Dunkin’ adds alcohol to iconic fall drink

You’ll know autumn is here when the leaves begin falling, the Patriots are losing their Sunday games, and Dunkin’ is serving their cozy pumpkin spice beverage line. 

Amid the biting cold and New England’s football woes, Dunkin’s iconic pumpkin spice line can invariably cheer fans up — and this year, they’re adding alcohol. 

Last week, the company announced a limited-edition Dunkin’ Spiked Pumpkin Spice Iced Latte. The canned drink is joining the Dunkin’ Spiked original, caramel, mocha, and vanilla flavors of ready-to-drink alcoholic coffees.

“As one of our most highly anticipated seasonal offerings, Pumpkin Spice Latte has become a staple amid everyone’s favorite cozy season,” said Brian Gilbert, Dunkin’s vice president of retail business development “Recognizing this, we knew we had an opportunity to create something special with an adult twist on the beloved beverage.”

The coffee company recommends either cracking the can open by itself or pouring the latte over ice and topping it with whipped cream. The drink, which has a 6% alcohol content, is vegan and lactose-intolerant friendly with a non-dairy creamer.

The drink will be available in grocery and local package stores across 27 states, the company said in a press release. 

The limited edition drink comes on the heels of the success of Dunkin’ Spiked over the past year, especially in New England, according to the company.

“After receiving such an overwhelmingly positive response on our Spiked Iced Coffees after only one year in market, the Dunkin’ Spiked Pumpkin Spice Iced Latte felt like a natural addition to the line,” Gilbert said.
