NASCAR Insider Reveals Penalty Report Update After Contentious Austin Dillon Win In Richmond

US

NASCAR finds itself at the center of a simmering controversy following a turbulent race end in Richmond that involved drivers Austin Dillon, Joey Logano, and Denny Hamlin. NASCAR has postponed the issuance of its weekly penalty report, typically expected on Tuesdays, pushing it to at least Wednesday, with the possibility of further delays until Thursday.

Bob Pockrass, FOX Sports NASCAR reporter, has revealed:

“Still TBD on any penalties and won’t get word from NASCAR until tomorrow [Wednesday] (assuming their deliberations wouldn’t extend to Thursday).”

He explained further in another post:

“Not having a penalty until Wednesday normally indicates that NASCAR is deliberating on a decision but not necessarily the severity of the final decision.”

Adding to the intrigue are the candid remarks from NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., who didn’t mince words about the expected repercussions. He detailed the multifaceted nature of the misconduct involving the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) team, from track behavior to communications among crew chiefs and spotters.

He explained, as quoted by Daily Express:

“NASCAR will react to RCR (Richard Childress Racing) in some way shape or form because of the spotter audio, and they should.

“Crew chiefs, spotters, should always get in trouble when they’re telling their driver to do something nefarious on the racetrack such as wrecking another opponent. There was a line crossed on the racetrack with the #3 car, certainly a line crossed in the spotter stand and then a line crossed on pit road.

“I would expect the #22, Joey Logano, penalty for pit road, I’d expect something around the spotter audio and I’m not sure what NASCAR could do or would do beyond that. I think it’s a very important moment for NASCAR – they cannot not deter this. That was too far.”
