Former Patriots All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel is not afraid to toss out some bold takes, especially when it comes to any discourse about Bill Belichick.

While most of Samuel’s comments surrounding his former coach have usually revolved around disparaging Belichick’s football IQ and his role in crafting the Patriots’ two-decade dynasty, he still believes Belichick will be handed another coaching opportunity for the 2025 NFL season.

Samuel expects him to be at the helm of one of the premier organizations in the entire NFL.

“Jerry Jones, he loves his players, he treats them right. Something’s going on this year. And I think that leads to next year, to say Bill Belichick will be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys,” Samuel said on ESPN Radio. “And it ultimately comes down to Jerry Jones. And Jerry Jones wants to win a (Super) Bowl. For him to get that Bowl, his options are running out. And that last option for him to make this thing come to light is Bill Belichick.”

Current Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is entering a precarious situation with Dallas this fall, which marks the final year of his contract. McCarthy’s job was seemingly in peril this offseason after Dallas let a promising season flame out during the playoffs, again.

Dallas has posted a 12-5 record in each of the last three seasons under McCarthy, but have only advanced out of the Wild Card round once in those three seasons, despite a roster filled with stars like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and DaRon Bland.

While Dallas still needs to carve out new contracts for Prescott, Lamb, and Parsons moving forward, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see an owner starved for another title like Jones turn to Belichick in hopes of a championship push next season.

Even before Dallas ultimately opted to keep McCarthy in place for this season, former Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty noted back in January that the Cowboys would be an intriguing fit for his former coach.

“I think Dallas could be one of those fits because, for one, Bill Belichick is 72 years old,” McCourty said on NBC’s NFL coverage. This team is ready to win now. I don’t think he really wants to be in a rebuild or ‘we’ll be good in five years.’ I think an opportunity to maybe be on a team and win as soon as you get there sounds like a good thing.”
