University Hill neighbors, partygoers react to Friday night shooting in Boulder – The Denver Post

A shooting late Friday night at a party in Boulder’s University Hill neighborhood that left three people injured has raised concerns among partygoers and nearby residents.

According to a news release, Boulder police responded to the shooting, which took place at a large party near the corner of Euclid Avenue and 14th Street, at about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to their limbs, and all three were stable as of Saturday evening, the release said.

Evan Blecher, a recent Fairview High School graduate who is about to start his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was at the party on Friday but left about 30 minutes before the shooting happened.

Blecher said it was a crowded house party, with people gathered both inside and in the yard of the house. Around 11 or 11:10 p.m., he said, he and his friends left the party after running into another group they knew and deciding to go get some food together.

“It was a bit scary, just knowing we could’ve been there” when the shooting happened, said Blecher.

Deanna Fujii, a 26-year Hill resident who lives a few blocks down the street from where the shooting occurred, said she didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary that night. She thinks she may have been asleep when it happened.

Fujii said that shootings on the Hill have been rare in the time she’s lived there, but when they do happen, they’re worrying.

“I think it’s concerning that we have something that can be life threatening, especially around the student population,” she said. “I certainly have concerns. And I’m sure the rest of the Hill neighbors have concerns about it as well.”

Police were continuing to investigate the incident as of Monday, Boulder police spokesperson Dionne Waugh said. Detectives believe the shooting happened in the middle of the street, but they are still investigating the events of that night and following up on suspect leads.

There is no new information about the victims’ conditions, but Waugh said typically the police department only receives updates on victims if their conditions get worse.

Although the University of Colorado Boulder now has a party registration program that lets students reduce the risk of getting a ticket while hosting a party, a spokesperson from CU said Monday that there were no registered parties this past weekend.

Anyone who attended the party or has video footage or other information related to the shooting is asked to contact Detective Max Neuzil at 303-441-1974 or neuzilm@bouldercolorado.gov. Please reference case No. 24-07866. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous may contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
