The Texas House Public Education committee is meeting at the state’s capitol on Monday and Tuesday.
If approved, the voucher program would allow families to use taxpayer dollars to pay for their children’s private schooling.
Opponents worry it would take away from public school funding, but recent polls show the majority of Texans, around two-thirds, support a vouchers-like program.

The committee said it would also examine education savings accounts, which are taxpayer-supported bank accounts used to pay for educational expenses.
Other topics, such as curricula, early childhood literacy, and teacher certifications, will also be discussed.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has made school vouchers a priority, but they still haven’t become law in Texas.
