Over two months, a Hayward man allegedly shot his neighbor, fired at a child, then killed his girlfriend while out on bail

HAYWARD — After allegedly killing his girlfriend while out on bail over charges that he shot another woman and fired a gun at a boy, Krishan Sharma called up a friend to confess and show remorse, according to police.

“I didn’t mean to do it, I did it, and I deserve to die,” Sharma, 39, allegedly told his friend during a phone call, just before she called police and informed them of the conversation.

Now, Sharma is in Santa Rita Jail on a no-bail hold, facing charges that he murdered 35-year-old Pooja Naidu during an argument at an A-1 Quick Stop on Lake Arrowhead Avenue in Fremont. Police describe it as a horrifying scene, where the two argued in the store and Naidu desperately tried to escape as Sharma chased her down and shot her repeatedly.

At the time of the July 20 shooting, Sharma was out on bail from a May 12 incident in which he allegedly shot a woman who lived down the street from him in Hayward. In that case, Sharma allegedly pulled a gun as the two were arguing, then opened firing, striking her but missing a boy who was standing nearby. The woman survived the gunshot wound and Sharma was arrested and charged with attempted murder in June, though he posted $200,000 bail and was released less than a week after the charges were filed, court records show.

Just five weeks after posting bail, Sharma allegedly entered the convenience store with Naidu, who was visibly shaken and crying as the two argued, according to the charging documents. Police say she attempted to get away from Sharma by navigating around shelves, but he pulled a gun and fired at her. There was a brief pause to the violence when she managed to coax him out of the store, but she then closed herself in and locked the front door to the store after he stepped outside.

That’s when police say Sharma got into a Mercedes, backed the vehicle up, and rammed down the front door to the store. Naidu saw what he was doing and attempted to run over the hood and escape, but he shot her, got out of the car, stomped on her head, then fired at least three more times, according to police.

Sharma was arrested on suspicion of murder and violating the conditions of his bail two days later. During that time, he allegedly called his friend and gave a partial confession, claiming that he “didn’t mean” to kill Naidu, according to police.

Authorities say there was a prior domestic violence call involving Sharma and Naidu back in May, and that they told the responding officer they’d been dating since October 2023. The two were also contacted by police after a “disturbance” call two days before the homicide, at a hotel in Union City where they were staying, according to court records, though it doesn’t appear that either incident resulted in an arrest.

Sharma has prior convictions for drug possession and burglary, according to the criminal complaint. The convictions are both nearly 20 years old, but made it illegal for him to possess guns.
