Police have arrested an NYPD officer who they say fled the scene of a Brooklyn car crash without reporting it while on-duty.

Michael Cruz was involved in a car crash where someone was hurt in the NYPD’s 88th Precinct, a police spokesperson told Gothamist by phone. The spokesperson did not say whether Cruz was driving a police vehicle, or if the injured person was in one of the cars at the time of the crash.

Cruz, who became an officer last July, fled the scene without reporting it, according to the NYPD. He has been suspended without pay, the NYPD spokesperson said.

The 88th Precinct spans Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. Police declined to share more details on the case, saying they are still investigating.

Neither the city’s police union nor an attorney for Cruz could immediately be reached for comment on Monday.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
