A man was arrested for driving under the influence after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash in North Hollywood late Saturday night.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the initial crash occurred on Vanowen Street near Vineland Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

The vehicle driven by the 23-year-old man smashed into the rear of a vehicle driven by an unidentified 52-year-old woman, LAPD stated.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the crash.  According to a photographer at the scene, a child was taken from the man’s vehicle, but that information was not confirmed by police.
