A man died Saturday after a paddleboarding accident on Carter Lake Reservoir west of Berthoud, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews responded to the reservoir 9 miles west of Berthoud around 2:15 p.m. after someone called 911 about a man falling off his paddleboard into the water and not surfacing, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Sunday.
The man was not wearing a life jacket and was not tethered to his paddleboard, the caller told dispatchers.
Emergency crews searched the area where he was last seen before finding the man in the water at 3:50 p.m. They began first aid and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s identity will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
The sheriff’s office responded to multiple water emergency calls involving paddleboarders Saturday, the agency said.
