2 dead after I-35 crash in south Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two people are dead after a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in south Austin, according to police.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on I-35 near Slaughter Lane. The Austin Police Department said a vehicle drove into a construction site and hit a pillar.

Two people inside the car died, police said.

Northbound lanes on I-35 were closed because of the crash, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Police said officers were working to open one lane.
