Man struck, killed by car while sitting in Irvine roadway

US

A man is dead after he was struck by a car while he apparently sat in the roadway, according to the Irvine Police Department.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was found at about 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Jamboree Road and Barranca Parkway, police said in a news release.

It appears the man was sitting in the northbound lanes of Jamboree when he was hit by a 2017 Lexus sedan. The driver of that car pulled over and cooperated with authorities.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they believe drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the collision, but they have not indicated if they suspect the driver, the pedestrian or both of being under the influence at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.
