Man fatally shot while driving in Oakland – The Mercury News

OAKLAND — A 47-year-old man was fatally shot early Saturday as he drove in East Oakland, authorities said.

The man’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his family.  Police believe he lived in San Lorenzo.

The man was found fatally shot about 1:51 a.m. Saturday inside his car which had crashed into some parked vehicles in the 1500 block of 12th Avenue, police said.

Authorities believe he was shot moments earlier in the mostly residential area and was able to drive a short distance before crashing.

Investigators are trying to determine why the man was in Oakland  and why he was shot.  No arrests have been made and no possible suspect information has been released.

The killing is the 56th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 65 homicides in the city.
