Investigation underway after driver injured in shooting along I-94 in northwest Indiana

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. — A shooting along Interstate 94 in northwest Indiana on Friday afternoon has sparked an investigation by state police.

According to Indiana State Police (ISP), just before 1:30 p.m. on Friday, troopers were called to the scene of a shooting that was reported along I-94, just east of State Road 49, near mile marker 28 eastbound in Chesterton.

When troopers arrived on the scene, they found a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on the right shoulder of the road with several bullet holes in the driver’s side.

Authorities said the driver of the jeep suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting and two other passengers in the vehicle, both juveniles, were uninjured.

Troopers rendered first aid to the victim before they were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities are asking for the public’s help in their investigation.
