Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has died at 56

(WJET/WFXP) — Susan Wojcicki, Former YouTube CEO and Google Exec, has died Friday after losing her two-year battle with cancer. She was 56 years old.

Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, announced her passing in a post on X which reads:

Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend @SusanWojcicki after two years of living with cancer. She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her. She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I’m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts with her family. RIP Susan.

Wojcicki joined Google in 1998 as the 16th employee and the first marketing manager of the recently founded search engine start-up called Google. The previous year she rented her Menlo Park, California, garage to Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of Google, for $1,700 per month.

Over the next two decades, she would continue to be a key member in the organization, eventually becoming the CEO of Youtube. She would remain as the CEO for 9 years before stepping down from the role in early 2023.
