Anthony Volpe exits game with foot pain in Yankees concern

US

A bad night in The Bronx got worse Thursday when Anthony Volpe was removed from the Yankees’ game against the Angels before the top of the eighth inning with what the team called “left foot pain” after the shortstop fouled a ball off his foot in the second inning.

After fouling the ball off his foot in the second, Volpe remained in the game and popped out to first, struck out in the fourth and popped out again in the seventh.

He was replaced at short by Oswaldo Cabrera.

The 23-year-old has missed just one game this season.

After slumping for parts of the first half, Volpe has hit better since the All-Star break, although he has just two hits in his last 16 at-bats.
