A teenage boy is facing criminal charges after Erie police said they found a group of people in a stolen car and recovered a stolen firearm from it early Wednesday morning.

The car, a 2022 Kia Soul that was reported stolen earlier this week, was spotted by a city police patrol officer shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Parade Street, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said. Police stopped the car in the 2200 block of Ash Street and located an 18-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and three 16-year-old boys inside, Lorah said.

Police searched the vehicle and found a gun inside that was reported as stolen, he said.

The 18-year-old was wanted on a warrant and was taken into custody, according to Lorah. One of the 16-year-old boys admitted to stealing the Kia near Mercyhurst University a few days earlier, and he is facing charges including theft and receiving stolen property under a juvenile allegation, Lorah said.
