Disney to raise prices for most streaming plans, introduce new Disney+ features this fall

US

(KTLA) – Walt Disney Co. is raising the price for all stand-alone tiers on Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ in the U.S. this fall, as well as most of its streaming bundles.

The new prices, which go into effect on Oct. 17, won’t impact the recently introduced Disney+/ Hulu/ Max streaming bundle in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery or the Disney+ and Hulu no-ads bundle.

Disney provided a breakdown of the new prices:

In addition to the price hikes, the company announced that Disney+ subscribers will have access to ABC News Live streaming channel and a playlist of preschool content featuring TV series and shorts available across the platform like “Sofia the First,” “The Lion Guard,” “Puppy Dog Pals” and “Minnie’s Bow-Toons.”

Premium subscribers will also have access to four additional playlists that will be refreshed monthly, which will include:

  • Seasonal content — a collection of seasonal-themed content from across the Disney+ catalog
  • Epic Stories — a compilation of action-packed stories from brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars
  • Throwbacks — a destination for nostalgic pop culture content
  • Real Life — a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories

“Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+,” Alisa Bowen, president of Disney+, said in a statement. “Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows, or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”

In the U.S., Disney raised rates last October for ad-free tiers of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.
