Cuties plant evacuated minutes after 5.2 quake in Kern County

A Cuties produce plant in Bakersfield was evacuated moments after a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck in Kern County Tuesday night. 

The hazmat situation regarding a strong smell of ammonia at the plant was reported around 9:15 p.m., just six minutes after the quake struck about 19 miles away.

The workers were evacuated as emergency crews responded to the call. 

Video showed dozens of people standing and sitting outside the plant amid a large response from the Kern County Fire Department.

Officials could not confirm if the ammonia leak was connected to the earthquake. 

No injuries were reported in the incident.
