Burbank
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: A 54-year-old Burbank man who pushed one officer into a flight of stairs and pushed another into the stair rail July 25 while resisting arrest is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Aug. 30 in Bridgeview, charged with two counts of aggravated battery, according to police and a court spokesperson. Andrew J. Szaflarski, 8500 block of Central Avenue, was also charged with disarming a police officer after temporarily seizing a Taser from a third officer, police said. Officers responded to Szaflarski’s complaint that fireworks had been thrown at him, but determined he wasn’t battered.
Chicago Ridge
ROAD RAGE: Alawna Belal, 31, Countryside, was arrested July 21 and accused of battery and criminal damage to property in the 10500 block of Harlem Avenue after he struck another other motorist in the head with a traffic cone and punched the motorist’s windshield cracking it, police said.
ILLEGAL WEAPON: Ryan J. Chaffin, 31, Lockport, was arrested and accused of unlawful use of a weapon during a July 22 traffic stop at Washington Street and Oxford Avenue after officers noticed him asleep in the backseat wearing brass knuckles, police said.
BATTERY: Oscar G. Urquizo, 23, Chicago Ridge, was arrested and accused of aggravated domestic battery July 22, in the 5600 block of 107th Street, police said.
Crete
AGGRAVATED ROBBERY: A ride-share driver reported escaping an armed robbery July 23 by driving away at a high speed after the passenger attempted to re-enter the stopped vehicle at Steger Road and Huntley Terrace while brandishing a gun and demanding money, police said.
ELDER ABUSE: Brandon M. Ross, 36, 300 block of Cass Street, Crete, is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Monday, charged with three counts of aggravated domestic battery/victim 60 or older, according to Will County court records online. Officers responded to a July 27 call from neighbors. He was conditionally released on electronic monitoring and ordered to have no contact with the victim, court records show.
New Lenox
ILLEGAL GUN: Jarod Childs, 37, 1300 block of Eagle Street, Joliet, was arrested and accused of unlawful use of a weapon following a July 30 traffic stop at Gougar Road and Cass Street after an officer recovered a 9 mm handgun from Childs’ backpack and determined he lacked a concealed carry license, police said.
AGGRAVATED DUI: Niyoka M. Robinson, 35, 25000 block of Latonia Court, Richton Park, was arrested and accused of aggravated drunken driving Aug. 1 at Cass and Washington streets after an officer determined she was impaired and that her license was suspended for drunken driving, police said.
Oak Lawn
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Alexia R. Boose, 33, Chicago, was scheduled to be arrested after her release from Advocate Christ Medical Center on an accusation of aggravated battery stemming from spitting on a nurse July 31 and hitting the nurse in the head with a thrown cup, police said.
BATTTERY: A customer, unhappy that the flavored cigars he wanted weren’t on sale Aug. 1 at a gas station in the 6800 block of Cicero Avenue took several boxes from behind a glass enclosure, along with plastic bottles containing car maintenance fluids and threw the merchandise at an employee when the employee attempted to reclaim the products.
ILLEGAL GUN: Trini J. Botello, 38, Chicago, was charged Aug. 2 with being an armed habitual criminal after officers recovered a plastic bag containing a stolen handgun from bushes in the 4700 block of 95th Street, police said. An officer responding to a disturbance call at a drug store about two blocks away spotted Botello, who had been arguing with another customer in the store, stowing the bag, police said.
COUNTERFEIT PAYMENT: An officer making a village deposit at a local bank Aug. 2 returned to Village Hall with the money after learning the cash included a $20 bill marked “Motion Picture Purposes” on the bill’s front and back, police said. A village clerk determined the bill had been used to pay a police fine, police said.
Palos Heights
PROPERTY DAMAGE: A 26-year-old Chicago woman who threw a landscaping brick through the patio door of her former home hours after her eviction is scheduled to appear in Cook County court at Bridgeview Aug. 15, charged with felony criminal damage to property, according to police and a Cook County court spokesperson. Janae Banks was arrested Aug. 1 in connection with the April 23 incident in the first block of Margot Lane, police said.
Palos Hills
SHOOTING VICTIM: Officers investigating Aug. 1 complaints of multiple gunshots in the 10300 block of Harlem Avenue located a shooting victim at Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said. Terming the event an isolated incident, police said there is no continuing threat to the community.
Park Forest
STRANGULATION: Davon W. Smith, 22, first block of Arbor Trail, Park Forest, was arrested and accused of aggravated domestic battery/strangulation and unlawful restraint July 17 in that block, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: A boy was taken into custody July 27 and petitioned to juvenile court for unlawful use of a weapon/machine gun after officers recovered a loaded handgun equipped with a device to convert it into an automatic weapon and an extended ammunition magazine from the crossbody bag the youth was wearing, police said. The officers were on foot patrol at about 4 p.m. at a park when they encountered the boy wearing blue latex surgical gloves, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black balaclava-style face mask on his head, police said.
Tinley Park
MISSED COURT: Shane C. Conway, 35, 14200 block of Club Ridge Circle, Lockport, already charged with manufacturing up to 100 grams of cocaine, possession of another narcotic and two lesser charges, was charged July 24 with violating electronic monitoring, a felony, after missing two successive court dates on a related drunken driving charge, according to Will County court documents online.
