Police identify 57-year-old killed in north Austin homicide in late July

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department identified a victim who died in a north Austin homicide in late July and released details surrounding the incident.

APD said Chup Prum, 57, died after the incident.

According to APD, officers responded to a robbery call outside a restaurant at 10901 N. Lamar Boulevard on July 24 around 10:30 p.m.

The caller told police someone tried to rob him with a knife. The caller said they shot the person who had the knife, who then left the area, according to APD.

Robbery Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene and interviewed witnesses. The investigation found that the caller, who is not being named in this article, had exited the restaurant when he saw Prum on a bicycle. Prum then pulled out a knife and approached the caller, according to APD.

The caller then pulled out a gun and shot Prum, and Prum rode home on his bicycle, according to APD.

Police said Prum was later transported to a hospital, where he died on July 28.

APD identified the suspect but said no charges are being filed at this time.
