Donald Trump Takes New Swipe at Kamala Harris

US

Former President Donald Trump has again targeted Vice President Kamala Harris, this time by giving her a new nickname—one that appears to have befuddled online readers.

In a series of posts to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump referred to Harris as “Kamabla” while criticizing the Biden administration’s policies.

“People vote with their STOMACH, and food is now at an all time high because of Kamabla/Biden INCOMPETENCE,” Trump wrote in one post. “With them in charge, IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE!”

Newsweek contacted the Trump and Harris campaigns via email on Monday for comment.

Users on X responded, with some finding the nickname ridiculous and others not even knowing what ‘Kamabla’ was supposed to mean. The account @7Veritas4 called Trump a “desperate weirdo.”

User @ImNotOwned was also perplexed by Trump’s new nickname for his likely Democratic opponent in the November presidential election.

The former president’s latest moniker for Harris arrived in the wake of his controversial remarks last week at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention in Chicago.

During the appearance, Trump questioned Harris’ racial identity, stating, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

Trump’s words sparked significant backlash and led to the resignation of NABJ convention co-chair Karen Attiah, who cited giving Trump a “platform” as a factor in her decision to step down.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre condemned Trump’s questioning of Harris’ racial identity as “repulsive” and “insulting” during a press briefing. Harris responded on X, describing Trump’s comments as “the same old show,” adding: “Let me just say: The American people deserve better than Donald Trump’s divisiveness and disrespect.”

Harris, 59, has made history as the first woman, first Black American and first South Asian American to serve as vice president of the U.S. Throughout her career, she has consistently shown pride in her heritage as a biracial woman born to Indian and Jamaican immigrants.

In a 2019 interview on The Breakfast Club radio show, Harris addressed questions about her identity head-on, stating: “I’m Black, and I’m proud of being Black. I was born Black. I will die Black, and I’m not going to make excuses for anybody because they don’t understand.”

The latest attack of Harris by Trump, 78, included his usual rhetoric: “Kamabla has stated, over and over again, that she wants to DEFUND THE POLICE AND, WITHOUT QUESTION, BAN FRACKING,” Trump asserted. “NO MORE FOSSIL FUEL. This will quadruple the cost of energy in America! DEPRESSION ANYONE!”

In a June 2020 radio interview with Ebro in the Morning, Harris said the “defund the police” movement “rightly” called for examining budget priorities between police departments and community services. Her stance appeared to shift shortly after joining the Biden campaign.

Harris’ position on fracking has been a point of debate. While Trump insists she wants to ban the practice, her campaign has strongly denied this claim. In a statement, Harris’ team called Trump’s allegation an “attempt to distract from his own plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class.”
