Twenty-eight suspects will appear in court on Tuesday following disorder in Middlesbrough on Sunday – as forces in other parts of the country charged people with alleged offences committed online during the UK-wide riots.

Officers said they will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court charged with violent disorder and other offences. The court has set aside a remand court to deal with those appearing this morning, police said.

It comes as eight people have been charged in connection with disturbances that broke out during protests in Nottingham city centre.

Meanwhile, forces in West Yorkshire and Cheshire have charged people with alleged offences committed online in relation to UK-wide riots.

Jack Parlour, 28, has been charged by West Yorkshire police with using “threatening words or behaviour intending to stir up racial hatred”.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the charge related to alleged Facebook posts made between 1 and 5 August.

Parlour will appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Officers from Cheshire Police have arrested a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment with intent to cause fear and violence.

On Sunday 4 August officers received several reports from concerned members of the public in relation to a Snapchat post encouraging members of the public to attend a protest at a hotel in Cheshire.

The force said in a news release today: “The post contained misleading information stating that the hotel was home to a number of asylum seekers. Thankfully, the post did not result in any disorder.

“Following the reports an investigation was launched by Cheshire police which resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old man and 34-year-old woman from Chester, on 5 Monday August.”

The pair have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
