A 50-year-old Mansfield man died in two-vehicle crash in Wrentham on Friday, State Police said.

At 5:33 p.m., troopers assigned to the Foxborough Barracks responded to the crash on Route 1, according to a statement from State Police.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that a 2014 Mercedes CLA sedan was heading northbound when it “attempted an abrupt u-turn from the center travel lane.”

The second vehicle, which was moving northbound in the left most lane, hit the driver’s side of the Mercedes, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and there, pronounced dead, authorities said. The driver of the second vehicle did not report any injuries.

As a result of the crash, the second and third lanes northbound in the area of 475 Washington Street were closed for two and a half hours, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police and the Norfolk County State Police Detective Unit.
