JOLIET, Ill. – Three homes in Joliet were hit by gunfire in less than a week.

The Joliet Police Department said at around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, officers were sent to the 100 block of Akin Avenue to investigate a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they discovered that a home with people inside had been hit by gunfire.

Investigators determined the gunfire came from outside the home and that one round hit the home, entered a bedroom and hit a dresser.

Police said multiple minors, ranging from one to 17 years of age, were in the bedroom at the time the bullet came in, but no one was injured.

Then, just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, officers were sent to the 800 block of Ann Street after a homeowner discovered their home had been hit by gunfire multiple times. When officers arrived, they learned the incident may have happened earlier that morning at around 1 a.m. and that the homeowner discovered the damage later in the morning before calling authorities, according to investigators.

Police added the home next door appeared to have been hit once by gunfire. A Dodge Durango and a GMC Yukon parked in the driveway, as well as a Jeep Wrangler parked in this home’s garage were also hit by gunfire.

While canvassing the area, officers found over 30 shell casings in the street, according to police.

No injuries were reported.
