Police capture 3-foot-long snake in West Village, NYPD says

US

Police officers caught a slithering snake in the West Village on Sunday, the NYPD said.

A call about the creepy crawler near Washington Street and West 12th Street came in at 11:18 a.m., NYPD officials said. Responding officers found the 3-foot-long serpent near jersey barriers at the location, and safely captured it by placing it inside a large black bin for transportation, officials said.

According to the agency, the snake was then taken to the nearest animal care center.

Police said it was unclear where the snake came from.

It’s not the first time police officers have had to respond to a call about a reptile mysteriously showing up on city streets this year. In June, two officers apprehended a 5-footer after it was seen crawling up a gate and trying to enter a basement apartment on the Upper West Side.
