AUSTIN (KXAN) — Emotions were high after University of Texas Austin Dell Medical School student Jake Foster watched his brother compete in the 2024 Olympic Games.

Jake’s brother is a Team USA Olympic medalist and fellow Longhorn Carson Foster. He already swam his way to silver in the men’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay and bronze in the men’s 400-meter individual medley.

Carson Foster swam for the Longhorns from 2020-23 and helped the school win the 2021 NCAA national championship. He turned professional following the 2022-23 season at Texas.

Longhorns Drew Kibler and Luke Hobson joined Carson Foster as a trio of Texas Longhorns who helped bring the U.S. another medal in the pool Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.

On Friday, Jake got to watch Carson hit the pool for a shot at gold in the 200-meter medley.

“I think just the experience as his brother watching him has been surreal. When he first raced on the first day of the 400 IM, I was so proud of him that just seeing him step up made me start crying. But I think for him it’s been super special and it’s been special for the whole family to watch,” Jake told KXAN.

Carson came just shy of bringing home another bronze medal, with China’s Wang Shun edging just ahead of him by a 10th of a second.
