Rockies veteran Charlie Blackmon left Friday night’s game in San Diego with a bruised left eye after he was struck by a baseball.
Blackmon, who started in right field, departed in the third inning after the baseball hit him in the left arm and deflected to his face.
Blackmon was injured after hitting a grounder to second baseman Xander Bogaerts, who made an off-target throw to first baseman Jake Cronenworth just as Blackmon arrived at the bag.
Blackmon, 38, tumbled to the ground and held his face in his hands. After being checked by Rockies assistant athletic trainer Heath Townsend, Blackmon left the field and was replaced by pinch-runner Hunter Goodman.
Blackmon’s eye was noticeably red and swollen, but Rockies.TV reported he did not have to go to the hospital.
