Fast-growing Murrieta fire triggers evacuations, heavy freeway traffic

A quickly spreading fire in the City of Murrieta has triggered urgent evacuation orders and multiple structures have burned, according to the city’s police department.

Murrieta PD first reported the fire on its X account at 2:05 p.m. The blaze, initially called a brush fire, was reported alongside the 215 Freeway between Los Alamos and Clinton Keith Roads.

Minutes later, authorities closed the northbound lanes of the 215 between those roads.

At the same time, urgent evacuation orders were issued in a residential area near Los Alamos Road and Los Alamos Hills Sports Park.

The amount of evacuated residents was not immediately clear.

Police said multiple structure fires were reported along Whitewood Road.

Murrieta Fire Department crews are working to contain the blaze. As of 3 p.m., no injuries were reported.
