(WJW) — Legendary rock band Aerosmith announced Friday evening they’re officially retiring from the stage.

The announcement comes as the four-time Grammy award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famers still had dozens of upcoming dates for its “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour,” which was scheduled to run through February 2025.

The tour began last September and was postponed after just three dates, when lead singer Steven Tyler fractured his larynx.

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” the band said in a statement on Facebook. “We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.”

Aerosmith said the decision to retire was difficult and heartbreaking, but necessary.

“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible,” the post continued. “A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

The Boston-based band went on to say farewell tour tickets will be refunded.

Aerosmith, known for massive hits like “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” took off in the 1970s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
