Mom of twins found dead on Miami highway to face murder charges

US

A woman whose 3-year-old twins were found dead in the backseat of a car on Interstate 95 in Miami earlier this year will be charged with their murder, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Shirlene Alcime, 42, attempted to jump off an overpass as first responders arrived at the scene in the early hours of Feb. 2.

She was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition but survived the fall.

Her fraternal twins, Milendhet and Milendhere G. Napoleon-Cadet, were pronounced dead at a local hospital, the police department said.

Alcime was charged on Feb. 15 with two counts of child neglect causing great bodily harm.

According to an arrest report, Alcime told investigators she had been planning a murder-suicide plot for about two months, “due to her current financial status and multiple debt(s) that she owes.”

Later in February, she appeared in court from a hospital bed on a video conference call, during which a judge ordered her held without bond.

Alcime pleaded not guilty to the child neglect charges, but she’s now expected to face charges of murder, the Miami-Dade police said Thursday, according to CBS Miami.

“The Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of death for the victims in this case is homicide, as such, the filing of formal murder charges is pending with the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office,” police said.
