Justin Timberlake's license suspended in New York at DWI hearing

US

(KTLA) – A judge has suspended Justin Timberlake’s license after the singer appeared virtually at his DWI hearing on Friday.

Timberlake is currently in Antwerp, Belgium, on the international leg of his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.

During the hearing, the former boy band member pleaded not guilty to a revised misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated after visiting a restaurant in Sag Harbor, a village on eastern Long Island in New York.

Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace suspended Timberlake’s driving privileges in the state of New York due to his refusal to take a breathalyzer test when he was pulled over, according to NBC News. This decision was made after considering a motion to dismiss the case entirely.

It’s not known how long his license will be suspended.

Irace also slammed Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward D. Burke Jr., over what he called “irresponsible” comments he made during the last court appearance and to the media. (After last week’s hearing, Burke claimed his client “was not intoxicated” when he was pulled over by police. He also claimed that the police made “very significant errors” and pushed for the case to be dismissed.)

“It comes off as an attempt to poison the case before it even begins,” he told the attorney. Irace even threatened a gag order if Burke continued that behavior.

Irace also threatened to make Timberlake appear in court, in person, if the behavior continues.

Timberlake’s appearance comes over a month after his June 18 arrest, when he was pulled over by police for allegedly running a stop sign and veering out of his lane. He was driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor around 12:30 a.m. when an officer stopped him and determined he was intoxicated, according to a court document.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the court papers said.

The 43-year-old told the officer he had “one martini” and was following some friends home. After being arrested and taken to a police station in nearby East Hampton, he refused a breath test, according to the court papers.

The 10-time Grammy winner was released without bond later that morning after being arraigned in Sag Harbor.

The next hearing, a lawyer conference, has been scheduled for Aug. 9, according to Deadline.
