Baby dies in hot car after parent forgot to drop them at daycare: sheriff

Authorities in Louisiana are investigating after a baby was found dead in a car on Tuesday.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office said when deputies arrived, they found a six-month-old baby dead in the car.

“The parent accidentally forgot to drop the baby off at daycare and went to work and then went to pick the baby up from daycare and realized that the baby was still in the car,” the sheriff’s office said.

The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.

At this time, there is no word on whether charges will be filed in this case, and the investigation remains ongoing. The parent’s identity was not released.

High temperatures in the area on Tuesday were well into the 90s.

A car can heat up by 20 degrees and become deadly in only 10 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For example, if it’s 75 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can reach 105 degrees.
