Mary Trump Says Kamala Harris ‘Terrifies’ Donald to ‘Point of Incoherence’

Mary Trump, estranged niece and frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, said on Tuesday that the presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris “terrifies” Donald “to the point of incoherence.”

Harris was endorsed by President Joe Biden on Sunday shortly after the president announced that he was dropping out of the race following weeks of intense pressure sparked by his disastrous June 27 debate performance with Trump.

By Monday, Harris had secured enough delegates to become her party’s likely presidential nominee and Trump’s opponent in November. The former president quickly dubbed Harris “Laffin’ Kamala” after it became apparent that she would be his likely opponent.

In a post to her Substack blog The Good in Us on Tuesday, Mary Trump argued that her uncle had “admitted something this weekend that we all already knew—he hates being laughed at.”

“Donald also hates women (especially strong women) and minorities, so you can see why current Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris terrifies him to the point of incoherence,” Mary Trump wrote. “He says she’s ‘crazy.’ His childish nickname for her is ‘laughing Kamala’ because she feels joy, and joy is something he has never experienced and doesn’t understand.”

Mary Trump went on to suggest that the former president had “spent Sunday and Monday flailing, trying to find an angle of attack that would stick,” because he is now facing “the reality that he is now running against a vibrant, intelligent, experienced woman who is fully two decades younger than he is.”

“Unable to do so, he kept going after Joe Biden,” Mary Trump continued. “His advisors and co-conspirators at Fox, on the other hand, criticized Harris’ personal life, her laugh, her ability to raise money. Sean Hannity, who seems to have lost the will to live, went after her for attempting to limit the use of plastic straws.”

Donald Trump, who finalized his GOP presidential nomination at last week’s Republican National Convention, had offered pointed but less frequent criticism of Harris in the past, instead focusing his efforts on Biden.

In the hours and days since Biden dropped out of the race, the former president has launched series of attacks against his new opponent, most recently referring to the vice president in posts to his Truth Social platform as “Lyin’ Kamala Harris.”

“Lyin’ Kamala Harris destroys everything she touches!” Trump wrote in a post on Tuesday.

Newsweek reached out for comment to the Trump and Harris campaigns via email on Tuesday night.

The Harris campaign announced on Tuesday that it had exceeded $100 million in campaign funds less than 36 hours after her candidacy was announced, having already broken the U.S. presidential fundraising record by collecting $81 million in the first 24 hours. The campaign said that the funds came from 1.1 million individual donors.

In addition to Biden’s backing, the vice president has received endorsements from key Democrats including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, California Governor Gavin Newsom, along with many others.
