Charges filed against man accused of shooting 7-year-old during road rage incident on Dan Ryan Expressway

CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against a Calumet Park man accused of shooting a 7-year-old boy during an alleged road rage incident on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers said 54-year-old Ulyesee Burns has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

ISP troopers were initially called to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning following a report of a shooting northbound along the Dan Ryan, near 73rd Street.

In a preliminary report from ISP on Sunday, troopers said the victim was traveling northbound along the expressway when another driver opened fire.

Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers said 54-year-old Ulyesee Burns has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, in connection with an alleged road rage shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

According to troopers, a preliminary investigation later revealed that the victim’s vehicle was hit several times by gunfire and the child was also shot as a result of the shooting.

Following the incident, the victim stopped their vehicle near East 22nd Street and South Michigan Avenue to call for help.

ISP troopers did not provide details on what exactly led up to the shooting, but said that it was a “road rage incident.”

Following an extensive investigation, troopers were able to identify Burns and the vehicle he was allegedly driving during the incident.

Authorities have not provided any updates on the condition of the child.
