A Calumet Park man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery after he allegedly shot and wounded a 7-year-old boy on the Dan Ryan Expressway over the weekend.

Ulyesee Burns, 54, allegedly shot several times at a northbound vehicle in a bout of road rage just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to an Illinois State Police news release. The car was hit with multiple gunshots near 73rd Street, the release said.

State police said Sunday the boy was hospitalized for his injuries but did not provide details on the child’s condition.

Burns appeared at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse Monday, where court records show Cook County Judge Deidre Dyer ordered him held while he awaits trial. He is next set to appear Aug. 2 at Cook County Circuit Court’s Branch 44.
