Kent police investigate attempted child kidnapping

Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a possible suspect in an attempted kidnapping where a man reportedly tried to pull a young girl out of a bathroom window in a home in Kent.

In a release, Kent police said the department received a 911 call at 10:46 p.m. Friday from a resident who reported an “unknown adult male had reached inside a window of their home and grabbed their young daughter.”

The release did not provide the age of the child.

Officers dispatched to the scene were told by the child’s parents that the incident occurred while she was in the bathroom and that the suspect, described as likely in his 40s and wearing a blue hoodie, “had reached into the window, threatened her, and grabbed their daughter by the hair.”

“He pulled her upward as if to take her through the window. The suspect was unable to take her and ran off in an unknown direction,” Kent police Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner said in the release. A search with multiple K-9 teams, Kent officers and the King County sheriff’s Guardian One helicopter did not locate the suspect.

Kent police asked people living near the block of 700 East James Street to check doorbell or surveillance video from that time period for possible footage of the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to message the department’s tip line at KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or call 253-856-5808.
