Boy, 7, shot while riding on Dan Ryan Expressway, state police say

A seven-year-old boy was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Sunday morning, according to Illinois State Police.

The young victim was riding down the northbound express lanes at 73rd Street when shots came from an unknown vehicle at approximately 2:40 am.

The driver of the victim’s vehicle pulled over at East 22nd Street and South Michigan Avenue to call for help, according to ISP. The boy was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The northbound lanes at the site of the shooting were shut down for about an hour while police were investigating but were reopened just before 5 a.m., according to ISP.

Police did not give an update on the boy’s condition and they say the investigation is ongoing.
