Woman Gets Engaged, Cat Makes Clear Fiancé Is Still ‘Her Man’

US

The internet has been left in hysterics after a woman shared footage of her cat apparently trying to steal her fiancé.

Christina Barry (@suki.the.brown.tabby) shared hilarious footage of her brown tabby being territorial over her mom’s husband-to-be.

“We got engaged but the cat is still letting me know he’s her man,” the cat mom said in a voice-over of the video which garnered 211,900 likes and 2.1 million views on TikTok.

Barry shows off her new diamond engagement ring and then pans the camera to show her husband and cat sitting next to her on the couch.

Suki is curled up behind her crush and puts her paw against his ear, and nuzzles her nose into it. She leaves her arm rested on his shoulder as if to say he’s still mine.

According to a 2021 study called My Cat and Me conducted by the University of Lincoln, in England, cats can form positive bonds with their owners’ partners, especially when these individuals show care and respect toward the cats.

The research indicates that a cat’s acceptance of others, including an owner’s boyfriend, varies significantly based on the owner’s emotional investment and the cat’s inherent sociability.

Kitties choose a favorite person based on who provides the most consistent care, engages in interactive play and respects their boundaries, according to the research.

Cats who receive high emotional investment from their owners are more likely to be open to new people if they feel secure and are in a solid routine.

Suki clearly feels extremely comfortable with her owner’s partner, and commenters were in stitches over the flirty interaction.

“Cat looking and saying ‘Girl, that ring don’t mean squat!,'” said one user. “She’s like cute ring bestie but i don’t need one,” said Alissa.

“The hand placement tellin you to know your place,” said Miata.

“My female kitty does this with my husband, she had both legs wrapped around his ankle when he was sitting down. Always demonstrating ownership over him. She’s MY cat,” said Miata.

“Cat: You got a ring but I’m in his ear. We aren’t the same,” said Becky.

“You are the other woman,” said Belle.
