Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Bronx man who was a bystander following a minor fender bender.
Clement Boateng, 36, was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the July 2 slaying of Ronald Gomez-Mesa, according to police.
Gomez-Mesa, 29, was part of a group of onlookers who took sides after the crash outside Randy’s Deli and Grocery on W. Tremont Ave. and Phelan Place in Morris Heights around 4:30 p.m., the Daily News previously reported.
A woman involved in the crash called her boyfriend to the scene for help; he lived just feet away from the crash scene, according to witnesses and police.
The wild caught-on-camera clash shows the irate boyfriend — later identified as Boateng — confronting the crowd, which began heckling him when he got into the face of the young male driver involved in the crash with his girlfriend.
After Boateng assaulted a moped rider watching the chaotic scene, he ran over to Gomez-Mesa and tried to grab something from his hands, the surveillance video obtained by the News show.
Gomez-Mesa immediately took on a fighting stance, and Boateng chased him into the street and off camera.
The men eventually met about a half block from the deli, where Boateng allegedly stabbed Gomez-Mesa in the chest outside a daycare center on Phelan Place.
Medics rushed Gomez-Mesa to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved.
Gomez-Mesa had a 3-year-old daughter and was taking defensive driving classes as he worked to become a TLC driver, his devastated sister said after the slaying.
Boateng’s arraignment was pending in Bronx Criminal Court late Thursday.
