Taco Bell's newest item pays homage to classic menu staple

US

Taco Bell’s latest limited-time menu offering is another twist on a classic menu staple.

On Thursday, the Irvine-based chain debuted Cheesy Street Chalupas nationwide. The new menu item doubles as a new twist on Chalupa, which originally debuted in 1999, and a nod to street tacos and street food culture, the company said in a statement.

The Cheesy Street Chalupas features fresh onions, cilantro, and a choice of protein, all wrapped in chalupa shells stuffed with melted mozzarella and pepper jack cheese and topped with a Jalapeño Ranch sauce.

Cheesy Street Chalupas come in a bundle of two for $5.49.

Taco Bell first tested the street chalupas in 2023 before rolling out a nationwide debut.

“The Chalupa has taken many delicious forms over the years, but with the Cheesy Street Chalupas, we set out to create a new flavor-rich way for fans to enjoy the beloved menu item,” Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s vice president of product innovation, said in a statement.

“The fresh onions and cilantro atop layers of cheese and premium proteins seasoned to perfection adds a different flavor profile and is our playful nod to the street taco that we all know and love.”

In addition to the Cheesy Street Chalupas, customers can also try new menu items like the Jalapeno Ranch Nacho Fries.
